WHAT IS LIFE COACHING?
Here are a few attempts to explain the practice of life coaching which is becoming a popular tool for helping individuals and teams get great results in their lives and organisations. so what is it exactly?
A vehicle for raising awareness and encouraging responsibility
A means of motivating and facilitating people to achieve their true potential through setting and achieving self-defined goals
A powerful process designed to match each client’s goals to their values and based on the premise that all clients are creative and resourceful with the ability to elicit their own solutions
A partnership which challenges clients to recognise and build on their strengths, explore their current reality and find positive ways to make changes and move forwards
A means of providing a fresh perspective on each client’s situation and exploring a range of options
Designed to keep clients on track, celebrate their successes and achieve their desired outcomes
A quote from the international Coaching Code of Ethics says...“Professional Coaching is an ongoing professional relationship that helps people produce extraordinary results in their lives, careers, businesses or organizations. Through the process of coaching, clients deepen their learning, improve their performance, and enhance their quality of life.”
What coaching is not....!!
· it is not advice
· it is not counseling
· it is not mentoring
Coaching takes you from where you are now to an improved desired state in the future.
It is focused on empowering you to set compelling and exciting goals for your life and supporting you in the process of achieving those goals.
The coach acts as a catalyst in facilitating the changes that you make in your life as you carry out goal centered actions after each session.
How long is a coaching session?
Coaching is carried out face to face at a location chosen by the client or by phone and will normally between 45 mins and one hour.
How many sessions will be needed?
The optimum number of sessions to gain maximum advantage of the services offered is usually six sessions but this is flexible to suit the client.
How often will these sessions be?
The frequency of the sessions again depends on how quickly the desired outcomes are required to be in place. It could be weekly fortnightly or monthly, the main thing is that there is enough time between sessions for the client to take the actions agreed during the previous coaching.
